The recent substation fires in London and the power outages across Spain and Portugal have reminded us all how dependant our modern lives are on our electrical supply, and how disruptive power cuts can be. Coupled with this our reliance on the internet further exacerbates the issue (for example how many of us even carry cash around anymore and rely solely on contactless payments).
With all our smarthome projects we recommend installing some 24vdc back up power ensuring that the essential tech keeps working through an outage, this can incorporate the house alarm, some emergency 24v lighting (LED strips can be used for this purpose), access control and the internet router.
Thankfully it is easily and cheaply done using Loxone’s new ‘Power supply and Backup’ coupled with a 36v battery.
For clients wanting a higher level of backup power we also install home batteries,
The Give Energy Gateway for example detects if the mains supply if lost and automatically switches over to the home battery, which dependant on its size would be able to power your home for many hours. The use of energy management here could stretch the battery life further buy preventing high load appliances from coming on.
Surrey Smarthome is proud to have reached its 5 year anniversary as an NICIEC Approved Contractor.
The National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting is a highly trusted UK regulatory body for the Electrical Industry.
Approved Contractors have to be qualified and competent to carry out electrical work meeting the requirements of the BS7671 Electrical Regulations.
We are audited every year to make sure that we are maintaining high standards and keeping up with changing regulations.
Being an Approved Contractor also gives our clients peace of mind that our work is fully insured and we have all the appropriate health and safety policies in place.
After a long planning period and ground works delayed by heavy rainfall, Surrey Smarthome can at last make a start on an exciting new Smarthome in Reigate.
The 1st phase of this project is the groundfloor rear extension encompassing a huge Kitchen Diner, Games room, Utility and Plant room.
With 2 large Ground Source Heat Pumps, an EV Charge point, 3 ovens, 6 bedrooms and the possibility of a pool at a future stage, the calculated max load was 180A putting it well above the 100A limit for a single phase supply.
The quote from the DNO to upgrade the property to a 3 phase supply was an eye-watering £36,000. So instead of this we are going to use Loxone’s new Energy Meter and Energy Management software to keep the house below the 100A cutout fuse limit. This, coupled with a 5KW Solar Panel array will also help the client to keep on top of his energy usage and save money.
