The recent substation fires in London and the power outages across Spain and Portugal have reminded us all how dependant our modern lives are on our electrical supply, and how disruptive power cuts can be. Coupled with this our reliance on the internet further exacerbates the issue (for example how many of us even carry cash around anymore and rely solely on contactless payments).
With all our smarthome projects we recommend installing some 24vdc back up power ensuring that the essential tech keeps working through an outage, this can incorporate the house alarm, some emergency 24v lighting (LED strips can be used for this purpose), access control and the internet router.
Thankfully it is easily and cheaply done using Loxone’s new ‘Power supply and Backup’ coupled with a 36v battery.
For clients wanting a higher level of backup power we also install home batteries,

The Give Energy Gateway for example detects if the mains supply if lost and automatically switches over to the home battery, which dependant on its size would be able to power your home for many hours. The use of energy management here could stretch the battery life further buy preventing high load appliances from coming on.
