How does smart shading work when I am away from home?
Smart shading systems automatically adjust your blinds or curtains when you are away to improve security, privacy and energy efficiency. Using Loxone’s Away Mode, your system follows predefined rules that simulate normal daily activity.
For example, blinds can open in the morning and close in the evening to mimic occupancy. This makes your home appear lived in, which helps deter potential intruders. In addition, shading can be combined with lighting and security systems, so multiple features work together as part of one coordinated routine.
Technically, this is controlled by the Loxone Miniserver, which acts as the central brain of the system. It uses time schedules, presence detection and user-defined automation rules to control shading behaviour. You can also override or adjust settings at any time using the Loxone app, whether you are at home or away.
As a result, your home remains secure, efficient and well-managed without the need for manual control.
How do smart blinds work in a smart home system?
Can smart shading reduce heat and energy bills in my home?
With a Loxone weather service, precise weather forecast data for your location is sent to the Miniserver. With this data, the smart home system can proactively raise or lower shades. In summer they can close before the windows are in full sunlight preventing the room from overheating. In winter, they can open during the day to let in natural warmth and close at night to retain heat. This reduces the need for air conditioning and heating. Over time, this can lower energy bills while improving comfort in every room.
