Smart Home Project: Hope Lacy
Job Details
Set on a quiet road in Reigate this 3 bedroom 1930’s detached property was completely transformed into a spacious 6 bed with a generous open plan kitchen diner, games room, gym, office and lounge. The design was sympathetic to the area and whilst modernising the property to a very high standard kept its 1930’s feel.
Surrey Smarthome got involved in this project right at the start with planning and preparation work undertaken before any demolition.
On this project we took responsibility for the whole electrical re-wire and smarthome installation.
The elements of the house incorporated into the smarthome system were:
- Lighting
- Heating
- Shading
- Security
- Home Audio
- Home Cinema
- EV Charger
- Access
- Energy Management
- 24v UPS
The Lighting was an elegant blend of downlights, led strips, wall lights and pendants. The downlights chosen were plaster in recessed led engines which gave off a soft directional glare free light.
Led strips were skilfully hidden in ceiling recesses and under bathroom vanity units to allow for subtle lighting at nighttime.
Under floor heating was installed throughout. Powered by 2 ground source heat pumps and controlled by Loxone valve actuators and temperature sensors in every room.
The south facing rear of the property had floor to ceiling sliding doors across its whole width. So automated shading was essential. Controlled manually or triggered by temperature the roller blinds keep the internal climate comfortable.
The client wanted a more traditional look so instead of Loxone touch switches he chose elegant matt white toggle switches. Whilst looking like normal light switches these retractive switches work on 24v and can also be used to control shading, ventilation and audio. With the addition of a temperature chip they become very smart indeed.
We also installed cameras, intercom and a Loxone intruder alarm linked to the home audio to keep the house secure. This system was backed up by a 24v UPS setup, maintaining power to the internet router and also allowing some of the led light strips to come on in the event of a power cut.
At the start of this project due to the high calculated electrical load the client was told that he would need to have a second phase brought in from the street. Consulting with us we advised that with accurate energy monitoring and management we could run the house on his existing single phase supply, Thus saving the client the £31k cost quoted by UK Power Networks.
It was a great pleasure seeing this project from demolition to completion and our job was made a lot easier by the planning done by Skin Architects. Their attention to detail and professionalism is to be commended.
